In the cultural sector the emphasis is on finding ways to attract and engage audiences. It is as much about reaching the widest range of audiences as it is about increasing income through visitor spend.
The challenge is to find ways to engage and excite audiences and to contribute to their knowledge, interest and enjoyment.
Audience Development dovetails neatly with education & learning and community & outreach work. When all aspects of an organisation work towards the common goal of audience development it makes for a successful and vibrant operation.
Finding ways to connect with under-represented audiences is a challenge and one that requires a thorough understanding of the principles of strategic marketing and organisational planning.
CDC has built up an expertise in this area combining a thorough understanding of the audience development agenda and technical strategic planning skills. Christina is an audience development expert adviser for HLF, and in recent years CDC, working with colleagues, has been responsible for many successful HLF funding applications.
Christina's wide experience of and passion for audience development enabled her to assess rapidly the needs of our voluntary organisation and place them in the context of project planning a Heritage Grant. She made complex analyses accessible to non specialists and provided clear, evidence based advice which led to sound decision making by the project team. Working to a tight budget, but careful to maintain contact at each stage, Christina delivered her audience development plan on time, to budget and of a quality to which she is absolutely committed - that's what's called value for money!
