Mini case studies

Over the past few years CDC has been lucky enough to work with a wide range of organisations all of which have shown real commitment and determination to achieve their goals.

Working as a team, CDC has been able to contribute to some of their successes and we wish them well for the future.

The Fairground Heritage Trust, West Devon 2006

Audience development planning to support the development of a Fairground Heritage Centre based on the site of an existing visitor attraction (Dingles Steam Village). The centre houses the country’s largest collection of fairground rides and memorabilia and is supported by both show families and enthusiasts. The audience development plan was delivered as part of a multidisciplinary team with clear connections made to learning and education and has led to an application to the Heritage Lottery Fund.

Primary issues:

1. Development of management skills and capacity to enable them to run a heritage visitor attraction with limited public subsidy in a highly competitive market place

2. Market analysis to demonstrate financial and audience development potential

The Arts Council England, South West. The Arts and Young People at Risk of Offending and/or Anti Social Behavior – An Audit of Activity in the South West

A research based mapping exercise designed to inform ACESW’s Regional Youth Arts Strategy so as to support targeted work at a regional level.  This audit was commissioned to give a clear picture of arts and non-arts sector funded activity with young people at risk as well as recommendations for its future support.

The work included desk research to determine the framework of the sector, interviews with professionals involved with young people at risk and included a workshop event with key individuals. The work was delivered in partnership with a member of the Youth Offending Team who acted as a mentor and supported CDC in its analysis and interpretation of findings.

artSites, Birmingham, Evaluation of Verbalize 2006

Formal evaluation of an arts based intervention project targeting borderline C/D grade GCSE English students in a selection of Birmingham secondary schools. Involved data analysis consultation with teachers, young people and artists.

The results were by no means clear cut and presented artSites with a range wide of issues for consideration. As part of review of findings, the work offers a set of implications and recommendations which has been the starting point for the next stage of the work.
